| | In commemoration of the International Women’s Day, March 8, the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) is calling on its networks, members and partners from civil society groups, associations of media practitioners and media organisations to participate in UNESCO’s Women make the news campaign. The theme of the campaign, “Media and Information Literacy and Gender”, calls attention to the ‘importance of fostering media and information literate societies as a way to improve the understanding of women and men about gender perspectives in media and information systems’. | | The annual WACC Photo competition 2011 is going on. The theme is Zero tolerance for HIV and AIDS stigma and discrimination. Photographers are invited to submit inspirational photos illustrating people and communities working for zero tolerance of HIV and AIDS stigma and discrimination.Winning photos will be seen around the world, so preference will be given to photos that convey meaning without relying on the written word. Photographers must take care to respect the wish of any person with HIV or AIDS who does not want to be publicly identified. Read more... |

WACC received 250 concept notes from organizations seeking support for projects in 53 countries
| | By the 30 January deadline, WACC had received 250 four-page concept notes from organizations seeking support for projects. The combined value of the proposed projects was over 3.4 million Euros – about 17 times more than anticipated available funds. Concept notes came from 53 countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and the Pacific. Colombia was the origin of the highest number of concept notes, followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo. Read more...

| | Nepal is facing ongoing tension and conflict following its transition to a secular democratic republic with a new Constitution-in-the-making. Tensions are rising mainly because of misinformation, communication gaps, intolerance, and the absence of balanced dialogue on contentious issues related to justice, rule of law, insecurity, impunity, human rights, secularism and federalism. In a society like Nepal, where illiteracy is high, dialogue is more important than ever in order to help avert and resolve conflicts. Read more...

| | Meeting in Dakar, Senegal, during the World Social Forum, 6-11 February 2011, representatives of more than 60 communication organisations declared that the right to communicate is a fundamental right and a common good of humanity.
