The earthquake of January 2010 heralded an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe for Haiti. Despite the generosity of governments and citizens around the world, the National Reconstruction Plan, prepared without the participation of various sectors of society, has generated considerable criticism from numerous civil society organisations. Among the criticisms was the disregard for Haitian citizens‟ right to communicate. In this context, the project seeks to strengthen the capacity of journalists participating in the project to better perform their work of mediation, thus improving the quality of journalism in Haiti. This project will address the problem of weak capacity for investigative journalism on issues related to the reconstruction of Haiti. This deficit has consistently been cited for the past decade as well as by analyses of media content undertaken by Médialternatif and partners during the last twelve months. Médialternatif will address the problem in practice through a process of journalistic training and research with community partners, alternative media and students of journalism from Haiti‟s State University under the guidance of experienced journalists.
