The context of this project is the Middle East where most of its countries have witnessed uprising, conflict and civil war, demonstrations asking for change from dictatorships and old political systems. In most of the countries of the Arab World where uprisings took place, journalists and media people faced violence, and at the same time social media succeeded in having its message reach its target group. The seminar project by WACCME addresses questions about freedom of expression and the role of social media in the mobilization of people towards democracy and freedom. The project is a modest effort in changing the situation by spreading awareness on social media and planning for strategies that can help in advancing freedom of expression and building the capacities of media personnel and related associations. The beneficiaries are journalists, members of the Association and grassroots media people. The expected outcome is increased awareness and recognition of communication rights and an enabling of participants to use appropriate information and communication technologies.
