Ref. 1410

Progress in combating HIV and AIDS is slowed down by stigma and discrimination manifested in multiple and complex forms. There exist however legal frameworks protecting people living with and families affected by HIV and AIDS. The struggle against stigma stands to be rendered more effective if the legal provisions are recognized and upheld. This project by Espoir Vivre Ensemble (EVE) will translate Law No. 30 of 10 April 2006 into vernacular and publicise it within associations of people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHAs). The project will build the capacity of local leaders and radio personnel to defend the rights of PLWHAs and AIDS orphans and vulnerable children. An advocacy workshop targeting local leaders will be held. The project envisions radio broadcasts in French and vernacular on the rights and obligations of PLWHAs and the community‟s role in respecting these rights. Created in 2002, EVE began as an association of HIV+ Christians but has now attracted membership from HIV+ people from all faiths. EVE currently chairs the Benin national network of people living with HIV and AIDS.
