India: Media Training for Women in North East India Print E-mail

The Other Media (TOM), India

€ 12,000
Ref: 1485

Training, equipping and strengthening individuals and groups in Kashmir and in the north east of India with media-communication skills is the aim of this project. It will empower women to involve themselves in peace building and political processes in the region. In a society dominated by men, this will provide them with self-esteem, voice, and social space. It will help them to articulate concerns, demands and aspirations in the public domain and create opportunities for dialogue. The project includes hands on training in print, video, new media and community radio for women working with civil society organizations who will take part in exposure visits to other parts of the country where groups are working on 15 similar initiatives. These women will work in collectives to produce media products and will form a network to create a local means of information and knowledge exchange.
