Uganda: Bringing People Together for Community Peace-Building Print E-mail

Great Lakes Centre for Conflict Resolution (GLACCR), Uganda

€ 10,000
Ref: 1482

For over two decades Northern Uganda has experienced war between the Lord‟s Resistance Army and the government, which has led to the devastation of the region. A displaced population has returned to their homes after more than a decade of life in camps and the government and development partners are scaling up resettlement and recovery programmes in the region. However, the return process has been marred by widespread conflicts which have threatened sustainable peace in the region. This project will address conflict resolution by organizing community debates, radio programmes, and dissemination of educational materials, training of local leaders, and holding quarterly meetings with key stakeholders. The project will increase people‟s understanding of conflicts in the communities, increase their participation in conflict resolution, make leaders more accountable in addressing conflict and work with media houses to report in a conflict sensitive fashion.
