Burkina Faso: Capacity Building among Community Radio Audiences Print E-mail

Association des Femmes de Zabré (Pag La Yiri), Burkina Faso

€ 8,400
Ref. 1345

The region of Boulgou has great agricultural potential for the local population, however, it suffers from a real lack of infrastructure and of means of communication and information. This affects the ability of the local population to generate income and develop their resources. Pag La Yiri (formerly „The Association of Women of Zabré) created in 1975 groups upwards of 10,000 women and men in three provinces and launched a community radio station. The station serves mainly the agricultural community and the radio clubs in the different villages. The project is to develop a series of radio programmes by „village reporters‟ covering the local markets and prices as well as news and events in each village. A number of programmes will be dedicated to agriculture and the process of commercialisation of agricultural products. 10 village journalists and correspondents will be trained.
