WACC and SIGNIS agree to work more closely |

The World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) and SIGNIS - the World Catholic Association for communication will seek more regular mutual exchange of information as well as closer cooperation in the future. This follows a meeting between WACC’s General Secretary Rev. Karin Achtelstetter and SIGNIS General Secretary Alvito de Souza which took place in Aachen (Germany) on Friday, 19 August 2011. WACC new membership with UK Consortium on AIDS and International Development |

WACC has recently become a member of the UK Consortium on AIDS and International Development, a group of UK based organisations which work together to understand and develop effective approaches to the problems created by the HIV epidemic in developing countries. The Consortium enables each agency to bring its own experience to be shared and used to help all the members improve their responses to the epidemic through information exchange, networking, advocacy and campaigning. The new membership will allow WACC to give input into the future development of the Consortium and to receive the latest news and research. WACC can also be involved in thematic working groups on faith, care and support, gender, children affected by HIV & AIDS and prevention, and TB/HIV. As a member of the Consortium, WACC is automatically a member of the Stop AIDS Campaign. Read more...

With the financial support of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), WACC and two of its long-time partners in Bolivia, SECRAD (Servicio de Capacitación en Radio y TV para el Desarrollo of the School of Communication of the Bolivian Catholic University San Pablo), and CECOPI, (Centro de Educación y Comunicación para Comunidades y Pueblos Indígenas), are about to launch a project working with Indigenous Aymara and disability groups to develop a communication rights index. Latin American communicators reaffirm commitment to communication rights on the continent

Meeting in San Antonio de Escazú, in Costa Rica, 15 - 21 August 2011, members of the Latin American Regional Association of WACC elected a new Regional Executive Committee and made their contribution to WACC’s new Strategic Plan. Well known Bolivian communicator and communication rights advocate, José Luis Aguirre, was elected as the new regional president, while Vilma Peña of Costa Rica was elected vice president and Gabriela Gabioud of Argentina was elected secretary. Eloy Teckemeier, director of Editora Sinodal in Brazil, was elected regional treasurer and Carlos Leon Ramos of El Salvador is the committee’s member at large. Read more...

Bossey summer school students share their experiences |

A Summer School on “Communication and Religion” jointly organized by WACC, the Institute of Christian Communication of the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremburg, Germany and the Ecumenical Institute Bossey of the World Council of Churches (WCC) concluded with students praising the program for its diversity and depth. The Summer school, held at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey, Switzerland, 1-14 August 2011, was attended by 17 students from Armenia, Brazil, China, Ethiopia, Germany, Ghana, Nevis, Sri Lanka and Ukraine.
