By Teresia Mutuku, Communication Officer and Web Manager, WACC

The Board of Directors of the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) will hold one of the most significant meetings in its term of office at the WACC office in Toronto, 9-14 October 2011.

The Board comprises two Directors elected by each of WACC’s eight Regional Associations: WACC Africa, WACC Asia, WACC Caribbean, WACC Europe, WACC Latin America, WACC Middle East, WACC North America and WACC Pacific.

Among business matters it will discuss the organization’s new strategic plan for the next five years.

Leadership and governance training is also scheduled to take place during the week- long meeting. The training is aimed at strengthening the Directors’ knowledge of their duties and responsibilities as well as providing leadership to the organization. It will be conducted by Joette Thomas, a consultant from the Craighead Institute, Glasgow, Scotland. The Craighead Institute is an international centre of consultancy, training and research founded in 1987 to promote social justice throughout the world. (See www.craighead.org.uk/)

The training will also seek to clarify the role, and importance, of the governance of WACC in taking forward the new strategic plan and other key tasks of the Board.

Eleven new Directors will join the WACC Board at this meeting for the first time. The Directors are appointed by their Regional Executive Committees every three years.

The WACC Board meets once every three years to determine priorities and commitments for the following year’s programme of activities. An Executive Committee meets in the intervening years. The current President is Dennis Smith.

WACC General Secretary, Rev. Karin Achtelstetter congratulates the new Directors and welcomes them to the meeting. “We look forward to a fruitful meeting and new strategic directions,” said Achtelstetter who will be attending the Board meeting for the first time as General Secretary.

Achtelstetter was installed General Secretary on October 1, 2010 following the resignation of former General Secretary, Rev. Randy Naylor. (See details here...)
