As their contribution to WACC’s Strategic Planning, the assembly and new committee reaffirmed that communication rights must be a key element in the work of the WACC-Latin America Regional Association. They further reaffirmed that Communication rights must be acknowledged in the most inclusive way possible and implemented to recover the vocation to build community. The Committee acknowledged that with emerging technological advances the search for equitable access to communication must be more than just a mere promise.
As part of their work plan for the next three years, WACC-Latin America has committed itself to advocate among the region’s governments so that they facilitate the setting up of judicial frameworks that protect and make viable media pluralism. The region has also committed to promoting analysis and proposals aimed at establishing public policies regarding inclusive and pluralistic media.
The Regional Assembly was preceded by the international seminar on the theme ‘Communication as a guarantor of people’s communication rights’ attended by international as well as national communicators from nearly all Latin American countries.
